Young Child 4

WEEK 1:

Here we are in our last semester of Kindermusik! And the Gateway Foundation’s first group of Young Child students will be graduating at the end of this semester! I enjoy playing with this little class.

We started working with recorders this week- our practice with a woodwind instrument. This semester we will also experience music of several cultures and composers, telling stories with instruments, ensemble playing, and musical forms.

At home this week, help your child review the proper way to hold and play the recorder. Remember to practice speaking the “too” sound before actually playing into the mouthpiece! And read Music at Home 46 for more ideas on how to begin with the recorder.

Week 15

We have reached the final week of a wonderful semester with a fantastic group of children. Thank you for sharing your children with me this semester- I have LOVED every minute of it! I hope that you will be able to join us again for our spring semester, beginning Jan. 24th.

As you think about your re-enrollment options, I hope you will consider the many benefits Kindermusik has to offer. There are too many to list in entirety, but Kindermusik activities are designed to aid in cognitive, language, physical, emotional and social development as well as, of course, music development. I sincerely hope that you will agree that Kindermusik is the single best choice for your child! You’re children are awesome!!!

Community Ed classes

I want to let you all know about our Community Ed classes that are starting next week.

They are called ABC Music and Me. They are 45 minutes long, once a week for 6 weeks. (with a possible option of continuing the class.) They cost $45 which INCLUDES the MATERIALS!

ages 18 mo.-3: Thursdays 10am (Parent/child class)

ages 3-5: Mondays 4pm

You can register for these, and many other Comm. Ed classes THIS Saturday at Deleta from 9-11.

Just as a reminder, our other Kindermusik class are:

Village (0-18 mo) Wed. 11:00

Our Time (18 mo.-3 yrs) Wed. 10:00 and Mon. 5:00

Imagine That! (3-5 yrs) Wed. 1:00

Young Child 2 (5-7) Wed. 5:15

Young Child 4 (5-7) Wed. 4:00

If you would like to attend a Kindermusik class, but none of these times work for you, please let me know. I am always willing to open new classes!

Our Time: MILK & COOKIES

Week 14:

Kindermusik class is an excellent place for your child to practice this turn taking – a basic skill required for successful peer-group interaction. We all understand how difficult waiting can be for a toddler! Several activities this week, (exploring the wooden instruments, Polly Put the Kettle On, story time, and Lead through that Sugar and Tea) offered a turn-taking experience. Throughout life, the turn-taking skill is required for successful social interaction.

Each week in Our Time, we enjoy “rocking time.” Take this experience home and set aside a special time for rocking and listening to all types of music. This will provide moments that are invaluable to the development of both emotional security and music appreciation.

Week 14:

Whether your child has or has not had the opportunity to play in real snow, we find that in Kindermusik, “snow play” can be a favorite activity! As I continue to connect with your children and engage them in pretend play, I learn more and more about each child. “Snow play” can be stomping, rolling, dodging snowballs, watching snow melt, or a myriad of playful ideas your child creates! Your child is unique and I thank you for the opportunity to get to know your child in Kindermusik.

Week 14:

We are having SO much fun with our glockenspiels! We learned to play our first song (“Hear the Doorbell Ringing”) and the kids did a great job. We learned the note “A” on our staff AND on the glockenspiel. We also learned about the brass instrument family. Have fun with your child at home this week improvising with the glockenspiels and practicing the skills they have learned in class! Play together!

Week 14:

Inner speech, or the ability to think the words before speaking, is critical to the development of sequential thinking. The sequential thinking skill enables a person to think through a process step by step. The study of music facilitates the building of “inner speech” and strengthens the ability to think sequentially. The following music activities help build this foundation:

· Learning and remembering songs,

· Integrating gestures or movements with music,

· Playing rhythm patterns on instruments, and

· Integrating words, pitch, and rhythm.

These and many other beneficial activities take place each week in your child’s Kindermusik class. And through participation in Kindermusik, your child is building skills that will benefit him for a lifetime!
