As you know, for a few weeks several of our Cities! activities have included counting. The purpose of this is two-fold—to enjoy traditional songs such as Apples and Bananas that naturally lend themselves to talking about repetition and numbers and to introduce the children to the concept of one-to-one correspondence. One-to-one correspondence is the ability to understand that each number counted corresponds with an object. This is an important concept because it is the basis for understanding mathematics.
We also had fun this week being “bells,” practicing our instrument game, and imitating each other during our mirror game.
